Moving to Spain or Back? Expert Advice on International Removals
When relocating to Spain, or perhaps returning to your home country, the logistics of moving your belongings can be daunting. That’s why having the right transport and removal experts by your side is crucial. Today, we’re joined by Paul, an international removal expert from Indalo Transport. He talks to Alex Radford, English solicitor and Spanish lawyer with My Lawyer in Spain, to discuss what it takes to move your home’s contents across borders.
From the UK to Spain and Beyond
Indalo Transport is a fully legal and experienced international removal company based in Spain. They specialise in moving people and their belongings between the UK, Spain, France, Ireland and other parts of Europe. Whether it’s a full household move or just select items, their team is well-versed in handling everything from furniture to family heirlooms with utmost care.
Paul emphasised that Indalo Transport is fully compliant with all legal requirements, making them a reliable choice for expats.
“We’re a UK limited company and have a separate, legal Spanish company. You can trust us to take care of your goods legally and responsibly,” Paul says.
Post-Brexit Moving: What You Need to Know
The removal process has changed for UK Nationals since Brexit. Before Brexit, people could easily move between the UK and Spain, but now there are customs requirements to navigate.
Paul highlights the importance of providing an inventory of your goods, which is essential for customs purposes. Even though you’re moving secondhand items, a declared value must be provided, and there’s a 21% Spanish VAT (IVA) to pay on this value. While this can be intimidating, Paul assures that the tax is usually minimal.
“There’s often confusion that secondhand goods aren’t taxed, but there is a small tax involved,” says Paul. “We take care of all the customs paperwork and deal with the authorities, making the process as smooth as possible.”
Flexible and Reliable: Moving When You Need It
One of the most common questions Indalo Transport receives is “How much does it cost to move to Spain?” However, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
“Every removal is different,” says Paul. “We conduct a survey of every move, either in-person or via video call, to give an accurate quote based on your unique needs.”
